It's the height of mango season, and your choices of where to get them have greatly expanded.
The photo above is from the fruit stand at the corner of Newkirk and E. 16th St. There they have one of the best varieties of mangoes, the altufa, which is sweet and delicate, with almost none of that annoying stringyness of many Haitian varieties.
Most of the fruit stands should have them right now. I know for a fact that they're available at the fruit stand on Foster Avenue at E. 16th St., and the folks at the fruit stores on both sides of the street at Newkirk and Coney Island Avenue said A few weeks ago that they expected to have them in by the end of June.
