I've been using Heifer for years as gifts to friends and family. Great organization.

Arifur, I've sent you an email about volunteer opportunities. SuF, Thanks for your support and kindRead More words about Heifer. Have you seen our documentary 12 Stones? Here is the link to our shorter version. It showcases Heifer's work around the world. Very powerful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh85cYW4hbk

Heifer is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I've been "using" them for years in the sense of buyingRead More gifts for friends and family--you can buy part or all of an animal (for as cheap as $20 to as much as you can afford) in honor of your friend and it means that someone who needs the animal for their survival is actually getting the animal. And then if I feel like my friend might want something tangible, I might buy them a candle (if I've gotten a hive of bees) or a dozen eggs (if I bought a chicken) or a nice piece of goat cheese (if I bought part of a goat). But it's truly amazing how many people they've helped around the world to be able to support themselves with the animals, and then they have to "pass along the gift"--when their animal has an offspring, it's formally and ceremoniously handed along to another person in the community, and on and on through the generations. Sweet, eh?

This group was different. Nothing will change in the mindset of the parks department unless peopleRead More speak out like they did. Volunteers actually make the problem worse because their work hides the real problem, which is bad management.

Jenny, Maggie- I agree. I definitely think that volunteers are one of the integral groups who manageRead More the park and keep it in good condition. There are many more groups like the Litter Mob, but hopefully their influence and impact will continue to grow and not become discouraged.
