Yes, Central Park would never allow an event like this. Except...well, there's Summerstage. AndRead More Shakespeare in the Park. And Met in the Park. And the Philharmonic. And all of the other huge concerts over the decades that have attracted over 100,000 people to the Great Lawn. Oh, and there was The Gates, which supposedly drew over 4 million people over the course of two weeks. Other than all of those things, you're totally right. The Meadowlands parking lot? Dude, it's a food festival. For people who enjoy food. That's the whole point of having it in Brooklyn. It's not a tailgate party. It's not a Bon Jovi concert (who did play Central Park and attracted 60,000 people). If it was in Jersey, nobody would go. As for Olmstead's views on that the park is for...surely he'd be fine with doing something different for one weekend out of the year. Just one weekend. The rest of the year, you can have your quiet reflection. Reflect away. Surely he'd tell busybodies like you and others here to do the 19th Century version of chilling out and letting people have a good time. Grass grows back.

@The Truth- if you are in the Neathermead daily I don't know how you ha e missed the numerous barrenRead More areas where the grass never came back. They are all over where the stage was last year, over by the paved path that goes by the gazebo and leads to the Lullwater Bridge and in the gully at the south end of the meadow. As I posted earlier I took pictures of all this bald spots just a couple of weeks ago. And I just don't think you get what a park is suppose to be. The whole concept of the park as conceived by Olmsted and the founders was a place of quiet reflection for city dwellers who were removed from the natural world. It was meant as a place to get a taste of nature not bacon products. As I have said before, there is no reason this event couldn't have been staged in the Neadowlands parking lot. And I'll tell you this- I can guarantee Central Park would never ever allow such an event on their grounds. They have a reverance for their institution. They understand their park is and what their role is as its conservators. And finally, as has been mentioned in various articles the park received only 75,000 dollars for allowing this event. That doesn't go far in terms of providing services for the park. And to put it not perspective the police department received 325,000 dollars for their participation.

Kodus to this woman and what she's accomplished. Retiring early is something many of wish we couldRead More do. However it is much easier done with no kids to care for. The article does not specify if she has children or not, but having two of my own and using the grass is greener on the other side philosophy, I sometimes marvel at how much $$$ I'd be able to put away if I didn't have kids. Reality is however, that no amount remotely comes close to the lifetime of memories , happiness and joy my kids have brought into my life. I wonder if she'd trade all she has now to have been able to experience the highs (and lows) of parenting.

She has no children. Children are expensive. If I didn't have children (or student loan debt), I'dRead More be able to put more toward retirement savings as well. I'd be more impressed if she was married with kids . . .
