School supplies will be given away in Ditmas Park by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) before this school year begins.
On Sunday, Sept. 2, ICNA will give away free school supplies from 1-3 p.m. at the ICNA Brooklyn Community Center at 865 Coney Island Ave. between Dorchester Rd. and Ditmas Ave.
School bags filled with supplies including notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, crayons and more will be handed out.
"Many families in New York are under financial pressure; some have lost jobs and find it difficult to buy school supplies for their childcare," said ICNA NY Project Director Salman Khan in a statement about the event.
"We hope this initiative will cater to these needs of low-income families, and help build a better future for our children."
This initiative is part of ICNA's national Back 2 School Giveaway Project, which is hosting over 30 similar events across the U.S. These efforts hope to help over 25,000 children nationwide.
