PUBLIC ADVOCATE LETITIA "TISH" JAMES ENDORSES

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – Today, Public Advocate Leticia James announced her endorsement of State Committeewoman and District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte for her campaign for the 42nd State Assembly – Ms. James’ first endorsement since taking office as the Public Advocate.

Public Advocate James has been a longtime supporter of Ms. Bichotte's work and leadership in the Brooklyn community.

“As the New York City Public Advocate, I need a partner in the Assembly who fights for working families and takes on the growing economic inequality in our city.  Rodneyse Bichotte will be that partner.  I'm pleased to endorse Rodneyse so we can continue to work together on improving our school, creating jobs that uplift New Yorkers from poverty and building a New York City that works for all."

“I am particularly honored by this endorsement. It means a great deal to me” said Bichotte. “Public Advocate James has blazed an incredible trail. I am continuously inspired by her passion, dedication, and commitment to the issues confronting women, and other vulnerable populations that often find themselves without a voice. As, the Assemblywoman of Brooklyn's 42nd, I will continue to use my voice to amplify these issues."

“One of the key issues I will be focused on will be to help ensure the passage of the Women’s Equality Act. The Women’s Equality Act, among other things, would safeguard women’s reproductive health, support women experiencing domestic violence, and secure equal pay for women.”

In addition to her fight for women’s equality, Ms. Bichotte has also been very active in fighting for civil, social and economic rights of the residents in her district – ranging from affordable housing to raising the minimum wage.

The Office of Public Advocate for the City of New York is a citywide elected position in New York City, which is first in line to succeed the Mayor. The office serves as a direct link between the electorate and city government, effectively acting as an ombudsman, or "watchdog," for New Yorkers by providing oversight for city agencies, investigating citizens' complaints about city services and making proposals to address perceived shortcomings or failures of those services.

As the current District Leader, Rodneyse Bichotte has been outspoken on issues concerning immigration, unemployment, education reform, health care access, senior citizen centers, affordable housing and other issues affecting the quality of life in the community.
