BROOKLYN -- New York Communities for Change, an increasingly powerful force on the city's political landscape, today endorsed State Committeewoman and District Leader Rodneyse Bichotte for Assembly from Brooklyn's 42nd District.

The NYCC board voted unanimously to endorse Bichotte this morning to send a strong lawmaker to Albany who will fight to make sure the communities of Midwood, Flatbush and East Flatbush get the resources and support they need on the major issues of the day, including affordable housing, economic development, education reform and health care.

"We are proud to support Ms. Bichotte, who has been an outspoken advocate for immigration reform, affordable housing, healthcare access, education reform and other issues of great importance to our communities," said Leroy Johnson, an NYCC board member and chariman of the Flatbush NYCC chapter.  "She has been a community activist and leader for over 20 years and we are confident she will be a voice that advocates for positive change in our communities."

She was born and raised in Brooklyn. Her parents were union members; her mother is a retired member of Hotel Trades union. She has organized many community events in Flatbush, including mayoral and candidate forums, voter registration drives, annual senior luncheons and a local grants forum for community groups to apply for funding.

She also has organized local residents to lobby Albany for Universal Pre-K funding, affordable housing, minimum wage increases and broader health care access, and was involved in helping the Haitian community after an earthquake devastated that country in 2010.

"I am honored to have gained the support of New York Community for Change (NYCC) organization, once again," Bichotte said. "We have stood side-by-side in the political fight to advocate for policies such as increasing minimum wage, affordable housing, economic development and universal pre-K. I respect the mission and efforts of NYCC and their positive impact, and likewise I will continue to support NYCC's mission and aid in advocacy efforts to push policies to benefit all New Yorkers."

NYCC has become an increasingly influential community group with the election of the new city administration. NYCC was among the first supporters of now-Mayor Bill de Blasio -- as was Bichotte. NYCC also supported Melissa Mark-Viverito in her successful drive to become speaker of the City Council.
