Stay In or At Least Walk Safely

Your neighbor warns of falling trees as a dangerous condition in Ditmas Park because of heavy wet snow from the Nor'easter.

Please stay home and stay safe. I just trudged home in the snow and the tree at the corner of East 18th Street & Foster has finally fallen over from the weight of snow on it's branches. The tree was leaning over after Sandy.

Mayor Bloomberg warned that the weight of the wet snow would be an issue for many trees whose tree roots have started to detach from the soil from Hurricane Sandy, and will cause more trees to fall.

If you must go out, I suggest that you walk on streets and avenues that are sparsely populated by trees or populated by small trees, such as Coney Island Ave, Foster Avenue, Cortelyou Road & Church Avenue.  Walk along Coney Island Ave and then cut into Cortelyou Road, Foster or Church to do shopping.

Until the tree roots dry out and settle in, this would be a good rule of thumb to protect yourselves and your children.

As an aside, the tree on East 18th Street & Foster was reported to 311 as a dangerous condition on 10/31/12 and received an e-mail letting me know that it was inspected and no work would be done. Here is the e-mail. I didn't photograph the tree because I just wanted get home.
