70th Precinct Community Council Prez Might Have to Step Down

New guidelines do not permit elected officials from serving as Board members.

A change to the guidelines of precinct community councils might shake up the order of the 70th Precinct Community Council's leadership.

Elected officials are no longer allowed to serve as Council Board members in accordance with an overhaul in procedures and guidelines, President Ed Powell announced Wednesday at the 70th Precinct Community Council meeting.

Since Powell was recently elected as male district leader of the 42nd Assembly District, he might have to step down in his role on the Board.

His announcement was met with resistance, as members of the community expressed disappointment with the prospect of his absence at the front of the meeting.

"Let's forgo the bylaws," half-joked one resident.

Powell noted he is still looking into what he must do as his position as male district leader is not paid. He said he is talking with Community Affairs officials and will let the community know what must be done as soon as it is decided.
