Mayor Praises Ditmas Park's 70th Precinct at Community Bash

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and police Commissioner Raymond Kelly stopped in at the Parade Grounds Tuesday might to thank Ditmas Park's 70th Precinct for a job well done.

Their visit was part of National Night Out, When police across the country come together with community members to get to know each other while having a blast.

The mayor noted the 70th Precinct's dramatic drop in crime over the past year.

Detective Dominick Scotto, who organized the event with the rest of the Community Affairs Department, said they had heard earlier in the day that the mayor and police commissioner were planning to come.

"We were like, 'Yeah, yeah, we'll see. And then they were here," he said.

But for Scotto and his team, the best part of the annual event is the chance to get to know the people in the community and to bring an evening of fun to so many people.

"It's really nice," he said.

The three-hour event also included clowns, give-always, games and free food.
