Hot Ticket Items Can Be Targeted in Robberies

The NYPD says new electronics, designer duds may attract unwanted attention.

 

While it's always fun to call the latest fashion items and gadgets your own, the NYPD says certain products might attract the wrong kind of envy. 

Discussed often, iPhones and other electronics have become popular targets for thieves, especially in the 70th Precinct, where Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriguez has frequently said to limit public of cell phones and other portable electronics.

To combat this, the NYPD's Operation I.D. lets owners engrave their valuables with a serial number that is entered into a police database to aid recovery if their property is stolen, as well as making the items more difficult for thieves to sell.

People, especially students, should be aware of their surroundings when wearing or carrying these items as they may be targeted for robbery or larceny.
