Eleven Children Injured When Firework Explodes On School Bus

It is believed that two children were involved in the explosion of the firework, but it has not yet been confirmed by the Department of Education.

Eleven children, including one who was seriously injured, were transported to the hospital on their way to Brooklyn Dreams Charter School after a firework went off on the bus.

The bus was at Ocean Avenue and Dorchester Road, about a mile away from its destination, at 8 a.m. when a student set off the explosive.

A second child may have assisted in setting off the firework, but the Department of Education could not yet confirm the statement.

Responders took victims to Kings County Hospital and Coney Island Hospital where 10 of them were treated for minor injuries.

Five others were evaluated at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.
