Grand Army Plaza vs. Marty: a Chanukah Menorah Lighting Face-Off

With festivities in both Prospect Heights and Brooklyn Borough Hall, here's a head-to-head comparison to make your choice.


There are two giant menorahs in Brooklyn, and both are having festive lightings this Chanukah season. So which should you attend? Here are the details on both events so you can make your choice:

Organizer: Park Slope's Chabad in Brooklyn Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Chabad of Brooklyn Heights. How Often:  Every night of Chanukah  One (special) night When:

Sat., Dec. 8, 7pm

  Sun.-Thu., Dec. 9-12 at 6pm

Fri. Dec. 14 at 3:30pm

Sat. Dec. 15 at 7pm


Mon., Dec. 10 at 5pm


Where (exactly):

In front of the entrance to Prospect Park Columbus Park at Borough Hall Plaza in front of the Supreme Court building between Court and Adams s treets.


Menorah Height: 

32 feet, the max allowed by Jewish Law
29 feet (still nothing to sneeze at) Perks:

There will be live music, jelly doughnuts, hot latkes, dreidels and gifts for the children.

Rabbi Shimon Hecht of Chabad of Park Slope will light the menorah.

There will be jelly doughnuts, latkes, and gifts for the children.

Marty Markowitz will share his usual wit and cheer, and also hand out Chanukah gelt (chocolate coins).

The "Grand Chanukah Drum Circle and the Kiddie Corner Children's Choir will perform.

Not true about unspecified! The Marty Markowitz event will have donuts and latkes!
