West Midwood Halloween Parade Still On, Will Begin Two Hours Early

However, the Prospect Park South Halloween Parade has been canceled due to Hurricane Sandy's effects on the neighborhood.

No hurricane can stop Ditmas Parkers from celebrated Halloween.

The West Midwood Halloween Parade will still take place Wed., Oct. 31, though the event's timeline has been moved up two hours to avoid traveling in the dark.

"We will gather today at 4 p.m. at the end of Glenwood Road off Rugby
Road, right in front of the fence that protects the train tracks," wrote organizer Beth Dunfey.

The parade will begin at 4:30, and general neighborhood trick-or-treating will take place immediately thereafter. Snacks and juice will be served, and donations are welcome as the group is expecting a large turnout this year.

Dunfey said the parade will follow a very short route this year, for safety
reasons, and noted the parade will proceed only down to Rugby Road and back.

"Please keep your kids close! Volunteers will be blocking off Rugby and Glenwood from traffic, but we want to make extra sure everyone is safe," Dunfey wrote.

Though the West Midwood parade is still taking place, the Prospect Park South parade on Albemarle Road has been cancelled.

“The police, whom we rely on to make sure that the parade is safe and successful, are involved with recovery efforts across the precinct and are understandably unavailable for the parade this week,” wrote James Dougal in an announcement.
