Visions For Vacancies: Newkirk Plaza

Newkirk Avenue has seen the arrival of two upscale coffee shops in the past few months. But besides the closure of the bagel shop, and the arrival of its replacement, Gyro King, Newkirk Plaza has remained fairly stagnant over the past few years.

The pedestrian plaza has a diner, A pizza place, Fishermen's Cove, an eyeglass store, an excellent hardware store, the pharmacy, a small grocery store with ice cream, two banks, a Dunkin' Donuts, an excellent Mexican restaurant, a barber shop, and several $.99 stores and bodegas.

But in the very spot where this vacancy sign now hangs, there used to be a fish store. And at the other end of the strip there was a bakery. Plus the area lacks shoe stores, a butcher, a good toy store, and lots more.

What would you like to see come to this open space? Another upscale coffee shop? A children's play space? A stationary store? Perhaps a new restaurant, such as Thai or sushi. Let us know what you wish were there in the comments.
