It's New York, so this isn't all that unusual, but here's a reminder from a neighbor that low crime doesn't mean no crime:
A detective from the 70th precinct came to my door today to say that a young man was mugged ...on East 19th Beverly & Cortelyou last night at 10:15pm. The perp put him in a chokehold, took his wallet and fled by car. He went home, cancelled his credit cards and then called 911 pretty much killing the opportunity for the cops to find him. [The detective] also said that a man was mugged at gunpoint this morning on Marlborough Road and that the perp, hard to miss at 300+ pounds, jumped on the Coney Island bound Q train.
