Plywood off Purple Yam

Plywood off Purple Yam

The plywood off, and the inside, which I glimpsed the other day, looks gorgeous.

Targeted opening date: September 2009 for Purple Yam

Yes, we realize that we have been promising to open soon, and we are very grateful to all the anxious calls and emails from friends and customers eager to share in the celebration of the rebirth of Cendrillon into Purple Yam.

But at this point, I have decided to be a bit philosophical and realize that there is a reason for everything. The delay actually helps us see all the problems of construction and gives us time to correct them before opening.

We are at present awaiting approvals from the Buildings Dept, in the process of getting the FDNY to give us A-Ok status so that we can get the gas, etc, etc.

The restaurant is coming along beautifully. Everything there is handmade -- so much millwork -- booths, benches, wooden facade frames and doors. And this time we have a gorgeous facade of tall windows and a big wide picture window at the back showing the backyard where Perry will build his fence of bamboo and lights.

There is a lot of old wood: distressed wood floors (that came from an old barn) and the bar is made from rescued beams from a demolished building. Romy is ambitious and wants to finish it with tung oil. Let's see. . . .

So please be a little bit more patient. We will eventually get there.... all good things come in due time.
