Josh emails that he saw "about 8 guys being trained to join the ranks of IDT Energy with their recruiter, getting off the Q train at Church Avenue to start canvassing at 1:45pm this afternoon… beware!"
IDT Energy has been accused of shady sales tactics, going door-to-door promising rate reductions on electricity and gas, scamming people who sign up by saving them nothing and then requiring them to pay big fees to get out of their contract.
It's been a while since they were popping up all over the city, but it was recommended a couple years ago that if an Energy Service Company (ESCO) rep comes to your door, get the following information from them:
* Name of the company
* Name of the company they say they represent
* Badge number or employee name
* Date and time
* Details of what they said/did
Then send the info to escocomplaint@gmail.com or call 718-766-8828. That info is pretty old though, it was a Bill de Blasio campaign in 2009 (the number seems to have been abandoned). Still, if a rep comes to your door, get this info, and there's bound to be someone you can send it to.
