Burglaries

Burglaries

There have been a number of burglaries in the neighborhood over the last week or so, so here are the reminders:

-If you live in an apartment and have fire escape - please remember to LOCK the windows facing the fire escape, and the ones next to the fire escape too. Every year as the weather warms, folks leave their windows open and come back to apartments that someone has ransacked. Do not let people you do not know into your apartment building. Make sure your building has security cameras.

- If you live in a house - make sure the basement has bars in the windows, and they they are secure. Make sure all the ground floor doors and windows are LOCKED not just closed. Make sure you have good lighting, security systems and cameras help too.

Report suspicious activities. If you suspect someone has been in your house - do not enter, call 911. The burglar may still be inside. Even if not, the police can preserve the crime scene better. According to Deputy Inspector Sprague (of the 66th, he spoke a few days back to folks in Kensington), they solved a number of recent burglary cases using DNA left at the scene.
