Patti Smith to Read at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Community Bookstore in Park Slope will host Patti Smith for the free reading series Books Beneath the Bridge on Aug. 6.

The first place you may think of while talking about Patti Smith is probably Lower Manhattan, but on Aug. 6 the singer-songwriter, artist and poet will be in Kings County, right under the Brooklyn Bridge.

will host a night with Patti Smith for the free reading series aptly named Books Beneath the Bridge.

The “Godmother of Punk” will read from her book Woolgathering, published in 1992, and then will be interviewed by Community Bookstore co-owner Ezra Goldstein.

The night will start at 7 p.m. on the Granite Prospect stairs.

Stephanie Valdez, the other owner of Community Bookstore, said when they were asked to curate and host one night for the six-week reading series she thought about who would be able to perform at the Brooklyn Bridge.

“I was trying to think of someone with enough presence to compete with the amazing view of Manhattan and the bridge," Valdez said, “and I thought who would be better than Patti Smith?”

Mark it in your calendar: Monday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. in Brooklyn Bridge Park. After Patti Smith’s reading and interview, she will stick around to sign books. For more information: www.brooklynbridgepark.org.
