Weekend in Ditmas Park: Drinks, Food and Fun

From bike rides to restoring schools to apple pie bake-offs to drink specials at Sycamore, a jam-packed weekend is on the agenda.

 

Don't look far if you're in the market for something to do this weekend. Ditmas Park will be as lively as ever as dozens of events take place:

  • Join cyclists from the neighborhood Friday at 7 p.m. for the weekly Ditmas Rides. The purpose is purely for a fun, relaxing group ride through Ditmas Park's streets and there is no planned route; it's decided upon before each ride. Those interested should gather in front of the Cortelyou Library. To be added to the emailing list, click here.
  • Campus Road Trees, a community group committed to caring for street trees along Campus Rd., is looking for volunteers to help build tree guards. Organizer Victoria Gagliano said volunteers are needed for Sat., Oct. 13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • P.S. 139 will be the center of attention Saturday as volunteers come out to restore and enhance the school's amenities to kick-off the 21st annual New York Cares Day Fall
  • Bring your compostable food waste to the Flatbush Reformed Church Community Garden at 11 a.m. on Saturday, where Sustainable Flatbush will add them to their compost bins. The compost site is located behind the church, on East 21st Street between Kenmore Terrace and Church Avenue. For more information about the composting site and what you can compost, visit the Sustainable Flatbush website.
  • Brooklyn artist Jonathan Blum will be the speaker at Temple Beth Emeth's Sisterhood Brunch, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. Since 1999, Blum has maintained a studio in Park Slope Brooklyn. He will be speaking at the temple about his artwork, his process, and his inspirations, and will share some of his pieces. Temple Beth Emeth is located at 83 Marlborough Rd. at Church Ave. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members, which includes a buffet brunch prior to the presentation. RSVPs are strongly encouraged, but not required.
  • Stop by Sycamore Saturday for some delicious food and some great seasonal and specialty beers from Founders Brewing of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Food served from 2-8 p.m. and $5 draft beers will be served all day long. This is the kickoff for a week of great beer from Founders Brewing at Sycamore and The Farm on Adderley. The week long event culminates in a beer brunch, featuring the Breakfast Stout, at the Farm on Sat., Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. Founders will be on tap all week at Sycamore.
  • Homes in Prospect Park South are holding their biennial yard sale. More than 40 houses from Coney Island Ave. to Buckingham Rd. between Church Ave. & Beverly Rd. are participating, on Sat., Oct. 13 and Sun., Oct 14 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., rain or shine. 
  • The annual apple pie bake off will be held this Sunday at the Cortelyou Greenmarket. The free event will start at 11 a.m. To enter, bring your apple pie made with local apples to the info tent before 11 a.m. Judging and then eating will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Come to enter, to eat, and to cheer on your favorite baker!
