A Weekend in Ditmas Park: Build Tree Guards and Go Shopping

Bike rides, community building and shopping for treasures your neighbors are selling are on this weekend's agenda.

 

Fall is a great time to enjoy the outdoors in Ditmas Park. Not too hot, not too coldand plenty of activities to make new friends and contribute to the community.

  • Join cyclists from the neighborhood Friday at 7 p.m. for the weekly Ditmas Rides. The purpose is purely for a fun, relaxing group ride through Ditmas Park's streets and there is no planned route; it's decided upon before each ride. Those interested should gather in front of the Cortelyou Library. To be added to the emailing list, click here.
  • Campus Road Trees, a community group committed to caring for street trees along Campus Rd., is looking for volunteers to help build tree guards. Organizer Victoria Gagliano said volunteers are needed for a series of dates, including, Fri., Oct. 5 from 12-4 p.m. and Sat., Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. 
  • There will be a multi-family tag sale on Avenue C between East 4th and East 5th Streets from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Lots of toys, clothes, housewares, books and dvds will be sold, as well as a Britax car seat, an Ikea Pax cabinet a boy's bike with training wheels and a vintage public school desk. No earlybirds please.
  • Bring your compostable food waste to the Flatbush Reformed Church Community Garden at 11 a.m. on Saturday, where Sustainable Flatbush will add them to their compost bins. The compost site is located behind the church, on East 21st Street between Kenmore Terrace and Church Avenue. For more information about the composting site and what you can compost, visit the Sustainable Flatbush website.
