Lacrosse Comes to Ditmas Park

The Brooklyn Battery Lacrosse Club will be running free clinics at the Parade Grounds.

Ditmas Parkers will soon be able to count lacrosse among the many sports offerred at the Parade Grounds.

The Brooklyn Battery Lacross Club (BBLC) is running free clinics throughout August for children ages 5-15 of all skill levels.

“City kids, who do great in school and excel at lacrosse...," said BBLC Founder Joe Nocella, "You can’t name me a college that wouldn't be falling over themselves trying to recruit this amazingly diverse demographic.”

Sessions will take place from 3-6 p.m. Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 on Field 4, and these summer clinics will be followed by full fall and spring seasons. Sticks will be provided for use, courtesy of U.S. Lacrosse and Warrior Lacrosse.

“There are many barriers to entry for a new lacrosse player in the city," Nocella continued. "Equipment costs, field space, logistics all contribute to very few active urban teams compared to their suburban counterparts.”

By providing the equipment and training needed to succeed in lacrosse, Nocella believes the sport will finally take off in one of "the last frontiers."
